range and hunting report (picture added)
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:30:54 AM »
Alright guys got the new scope on the 30-30.  Got one inch groups at 100yrds with 150grn federal jsp.  Went hunting yesterday morning for the first time in about thirteen years.  Got in the stand about 0630 saw buck about 0830 heart rate tripled and almost urinated in my pants.  Watched him put a paw mark down and then he quarted away and started to leave.  Aimed at the back of the neck about halfway between the head and shoulder.  Squeezed the trigger.  Buck falls like he got struck by lighting.  Got to the buck.  Entrance wound was about one inch below the base of the skull and exited on the other side of the neck.  Walked off the range was 45 yards.  Turned out to be an 8-point, spread was just inside the ears, weighted about 165lbs, about a three year old deer.  I'm very happy with my little handi.

  Thanks Matt

P.S.  Thats the exit wound in the picture.
