South Dakota non resident trapping
« on: November 03, 2010, 09:22:10 PM »
Hopefully the SD non resident trappers license will get straightened out so non residents can come here and trap other animals than muskrats in the late winter/spring season.I am going to suggest that Fish and Game change the regulations so non resident canine trappers have to live release all skunks. ;D

I got between here in WI & MI fairly often for outdoor pursuits. MI(& a few other nearby states) have restrictions to WI residents when it comes to trapping or hunting 'furbearers'. I think some of this goes back to when fur was worth more & to protect resources for the residents. The MI regs guy said it was because WI has restrictions, which is sorta true still. In WI the bobcat harvest is limited to a 'draw', where in MI it's 'over the counter'. So with that little difference we'll never be 'on parity' with MI.

I think they should  offer the  trapping/fur harvest to the non-residents, even if they charge so much that nobody ever buys a license.

I think the states should restrict the bobcat harvest to residents of that state only.I still think non residents should have release, live, all skunks ;D.

Here in WI  we dont have as many bobcats as other states,   We are allowed only approximately 500 cats a year  and  you usually have to wait 5 to 8 or more years in between bobcats.  We have   i believe over 5000 people applying for cat tags a year .  If we had alot of cats  i believe it would be differant.   As far as skunks go, one can release them alive BUT it is illegal to do so in WI..
