45acp barrel for handi rifle

There were some posts about who to send a Handi Rifle barrel to in order to get it converted to .45ACP. I cannot locate the thread. Any suggestions as to who can make the conversion and what to start with?

Unless you have a ton of 45acp brass that want to use, it is probably cheaper to get a Buffalo Classic Carbine from CDNN in 45 Colt and some Cowboy 45 brass to load from Adirondack Jack.  It is essentially a 45 ACP with a 45 Colt Rim.  I shoot them in mine with 5.5 231 and 200-250gr bullets as plinkers.  Pretty quietly, I might add.

Mcace.com has .45 acp 18" barrel insert for a 12 ga shotty.  I am thinking about getting one for my rossi single shot.  They are pretty cheap so if it doesnt work out, oh well.

now I know where my christmas presents are coming from.  18" 45 ACP insert for a 12 ga breakopen is $101 including the shipping.  8 to 12 week lead time.  They have many different insert calibers and a fellow with a shorty 12 ga H&R barrel fitted to a SB2 receiver could have a lot of different rifles on one platform.  Think I will try just one for now and see how it works.

Without sights they won't be too effective, the 20ga would be a better choice IMO since it can be drilled and tapped for a scope or sights much easier.  ;) Good luck getting the inserts too, many past reports on his service have been less than encouraging, hopefully he's improved.  :-\

Lets see.........now I need a 20ga. double with two set of inserts, maybe 30-40Krag (30-30 would be OK too) and something smaller, say .32. Mag?, 25-20? and a set of sights........

Well I have a real SS H&R in .45 ACP (stubbed and beautiful!!), but I can really see a double barreled 45/70 in a short barreled 12 double. I wonder if he can can make a 45-70 insert for a 16 gauge that would fit my O/U??? No on second thought I think the 12ga./45-70 short barreld double would be the ticket....<><....:)

My rossi turkey gun came with fiber optic sights so no prob there.  Gotta get the ok from the boss before I put the order in.  As soon as I get it Ill post some pics.

One GBO member has a 45/70 side by side that he built.  I believe it is a stub job and not a liner.  Looks very nice and I got to shot it one time. ;D

I bought one of the inserts some time ago just to play around with, i did not want to spend much on just a play thing so i got the 10" but got it in 45 Colt instead of the better choice for the barrel length, the ACP.

Well, the economy happened and i ran out of things to shoot .45 slugs out of. Back in the summer i found a 12 gauge handi at a pawn shop and picked it up pretty cheap. I took the ejector out, epoxied the insert in place and cut a groove to install a .410 ejector.

I drilled and tapped the barrel (just over the forearm Weaver 92, i think) and installed a pistol scope. I wish i had done that before installing the insert so as not to have need a bottoming tap.

As I recall, back around 2007, someone was drilling out 22 Hornet barrels for .45ACP. and charging about $200. I have about 30 firearms I don't shoot, I was just thinking about turning one of the dozen barrels I have into something I use instead of buying something else to take up room with.
