Scope mounting question
« on: November 09, 2010, 07:49:05 AM »
Adding a scope to my Contender 10" bull barrel.

Using a Leupold M8 2X EER scope.

Scope rings come in low/medium/tall heights.

What height usually works best? :-\

I always use the lowest rings that will allow the bell of the 'scope to not contact the barrel...

The lower the ring, the closer to that actual trajectory the line of sight is to the bullet path...

Higher mounts are better for slower moving bullets.  But that is another topic...

Good-luck...BCB

I use medium so I can get my thumb in to cock the hammer

That is why I have hammer extensions on every Contender frame that I own...

But that's another subject...

I use meduim to allow the trigger to be cocked without an extension.  I am one of the many that had misfires with a hammer extension and never a misfire without an extension.

Well, that certainly is the arguement against the hammer extensions.  And if the medium rings get you the setup and trajectory you need, then you have all you need...

I think part of the problem with misfires, if indeed they do occur from the hammer extensions, might be the brand name of the one installed.  I know the ones I have are the best as far as I am concerned--I will stop at that, since brand name can be a problem...

Sorry for straying away from the ring's question...
