Marlin 60 stock
« on: October 10, 2010, 04:33:48 AM »
I chopped the stock on my Marlin 60 years ago for the kids. I didn't keep the removed piece. So now I am going to restock it. It is looking like $40 to $60 dallors to put an original on. So I am thinking of the aftermarket flavors. What is on yours and do you like it? Thanks

I picked up one of the ATI Dragunovs on ebay for about $35 plus shipping.  A lot of people poo-poo them, but actually I'm quite impressed - it's sturdy enough to bash a zombie with IMO.  I got it to keep from dinging the old one.

If you watch Boyd's they do several runs of specialty Model 60 stocks each year.  I was really tempted on a few.  Currently, they don't have any in stock.  I think if I were going to do an after market, I'd look at this one from Midway, although it's a little over your $40 range:

In case you want to watch for Model 60 versions:

I purchased an older ATI folding buttstock version for mine, but rarely put it on.  I have grown to like wood much more and especially taken a liking to black/silver or Camo laminates.  ;)

I also ordered an ATI from Mid-Way today. I liked the reviews.
I refinished the old stock and was just not pleased with it--OH, it came out good, just not pleased with what I was working with to begin with.
