to shoot the Tracker ll 12 gauge with full power loads from the bench! Wow that thing kinds like a mule with managed recoil Buckhammers. I only shot 2 three rounds groups with it today. It was my first time shooting it since I have gotten it. I was only able to use the 25 yard range at the time it put both groups at around 2- 2 1/2 inches and about 2 inches high. When the 50 yard range came up I had done had enough. I guess I am getting a soft as I get older.

Single shot shotguns are that way aren't they. You can dampen the kick a bit if you get a good grip on the forearm. that adds the mass of your arm to the weight of the gun.

I find that smashing my toe with a hammer helps reduce the felt recoil of my 12. Keeps your mind off it.

When I sited my shorty in with slugs I folded my jacket between the stock and me.  It still wasn't pleasant.  When I'm shooting critters I don't even notice the massive recoil.

When I sighted mine in this past weekend I went thru 12 rounds. I placed a sand bag between me and the limbsaver pad and I still have the smile mark on my forehead to prove I shot it. I forgot to place a couple of fingers over the barrel and paid the price.
Mine weights in at 8 lbs. Tomorrow I plan to shoot it again and will try it with only a jacket this time and hold the forearm to see how it feels.

Why you all shooting 12ga. A 20 ga. will do the job just as well with lot less kick, Just got a  20ga. Ultra Light Slughunter, same barrel as a tracker II, is no problem to shoot with its minimal recoil. I also have the heavy barrel 20ga. Ultra Slughunter since last year, don't notice any differance in kick. My wife and I each dropped a couple of deer last year with no problem, at yardage from 40 to 120.

I don't shoot mine from a bench. Off hand, shoulders a bit more square than when I'm shooting a rifle. Keep the stock tight to your shoulder and lean into it a little. Another factor might be my physical size 6'1" 280 lbs, but I don't recommend anyone getting as fat as me just to deal with recoil. All that said, I'll be using my 20ga USH this Friday.

might try filling the stock channel bolt hole with lead shot for range work.  Dump out the shot before you go hunting.  Can also get a Limbsaver slip on pad from Wallyworld for $20 bucks and just use it for bench work.  The Limbsaver @ Wallyword is marketed under the Winchester brand.  Me personnally, I just have gotten use to blood running into my eyes.

I think the main problem I was having was the bench was built to low from my height and I had to sit at a bad angle to be able to get down on the gun thus not getting a good fit from pad to shoulder. All in all I really liked the Tracker. I have been using H&R shotguns and rifles for years now they seem to be my favorite.

Here is a picture of my 12g. I put about 12oz of shot in the stock, a large limbsaver. Maybe it's the contour but I have no issues with recoil. Bench shot 30 rounds of slugs, from a rest. I couldn't hold the forearm down, but no blood at all. Free standing, great. I use this for turkeys, pheasants, anything. It is a little heavy but fits and swings easily. I load my own shells and have different wads and powders for what I am hunting. Slugs kick a bit but only from the bench. Shot no problem. Turkey loads shoot like rifle at 65y. I am not afraid of this. On the original wood and frame it hurt me big time.

I didnt grow up in a shotgunning family but through the years aquired a couple 12s in trades (everything said 12 was the best all-rounder) and evertime I shot them I shortened up my range session, those puppies hurt me. And Im not small at 6'2" x 205#.  I did enough to know the old Stevens pump shorty would put Win. Foster slug loads into 3" at 50yd. POA just in case I needed it.
This fall I got a Topper 20 (only about 5 1/2#!)and , wow, what difference. Ive even popped a few old Rem Foster slug loads and they go pretty much where its pointed at 40Yd. 'in the leaves' out back. Plenty enough to put into the boiler room on a deer. I have a whole new outlook on shotguns. Now if I can just learn to not stop the swing when I pull the trigger!
