Tom and Lee Fur primeness?
« on: November 06, 2010, 02:06:03 PM »
Guys
How do the muskrats, beaver and racoon look for being prime in your area? When are rats considered winter rats there?Heavy coon,beaver.Thanks. I may just go catch flea buses until the water fur is prime.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Mink are just about prime, coon getting there and bvr not yet.   Rats are getting thicker underfur but arent considered shearable yet.  When  skin side of hide looks blue or not white color when dry, it means the hair follicles   hair isnt all the way out of follicle.   Animals even same species will prime up at differant times  sometimes  a week differance in time.

Best bet on rats--start when the season opens--rats continue to prime for a long time.Winter rats do not pay much more than fall rats.It is more economically feasible to hit rats when the water is open--and rats will end up paying way more than flea busses. I start on day 1 of the rat openers and never regret it.

I'm going to set up on the beaver complaint tomorrow.Hopefully I'll get some muskrat traps out also.We are chronically short of help so I end up with overtime shifts.I'm going to set up a rat line I can check going and coming from work.

I check a line to work and from work and then on prearranged days run  my long line.  So it usually ends up skinning every nite to keep up  with mink, rats, coon, fisher, weasel, fox , yotes, skunks, and a few possums... bvr later in winter with otter.
