questions about savage 220F 20 ga bolt gun
« on: November 21, 2010, 05:11:51 PM »
I have some questions about this gun.  what are the accuracy that you have been getting out of them and what round are you using.  What mounts are you using..... Havinging a problem finding the proper mount.  Is this gun all it cracked up to be.  I am desperate to find a good slug gun.
LUCK when preperation meets opportunity.

I am in the same boat...looking for a good slug gun. This gun has great reviews but it sounds like some 220F's  has some issues with (ejecting the fired round) the spent shell hangs up while working the bolt. I spoke with a gun dealer, he had nothing but good to say about th 220F. The price tag was 450.00 not sure if I want to spend that amount of cash. I am still checking into a Rem 870 cantilever barrel or a TC Enfore slug Barrel.

SO here is what I have found out so far.

It does not like any winchester plat 20 slugs at all for any reason..........   12-19 inch groups 100yrds

Buck hammers likes them

Hornady 250 sst     does  about 3 inch at 100 yrds.......  I had one miss fired round that would not go off.  Tried shooting it three times.  All others went bang

bad news    this is a  single shot............   had a lot of problems with the magainze.  Figured out the procedure that works

1.  slide the magazine in evenly until it stops     ( this will be about half way)
2. lock in the back of the magazine first
3. Lock in the front of the magainze.......

But if i put more that one round in this gun it will not cycle....

So great shooter if you can get it to shoot

by the way 20 min into gun season shot a nice 8 point
LUCK when preperation meets opportunity.

I will be happy once it goes back to savage to figure out why i have a one shooter.  Now that shot gun season is done I dont have to worry about it.

Why don't you try an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in either 20 or 12 gauge? They are relatively inexpensive and are one of the most accurate, if not the most accurate slug guns on the market. You can get them in a different configurations, from a plain stock to a laminated thumb hole stock. I have a co-worker that loves his 12 gauge. He puts 3 shots in under 2" at 100 yards every time. Got his deer with it this year, one shot, one deer.

Good Luck and Good Shooting
