Issues with the Model 788 trigger??
« on: October 25, 2010, 06:35:34 AM »

I missed the television show on the issues regarding the trigger of the Model 700.  Did the investigation also cover the trigger on the Model 788?  Are there any known or similar issues with this trigger system?

    Thanks, Mannyrock

I just did a bunch of user test on my 788 and the trigger appeared to be okay.

I feel the safety is on the light side and care along with muzzle control needs to be practiced.

The 788 had a habit of the safety sliding off  safe going through heavy bush , and some of the bolts came off the bolt body , but there doesn't seem to be the problem as with the 600/660 and 700 Remington bolt actions .
The 788 had it's problems just like any thing else , but the main problem Remington had with these little guns- is that they out shot the 700 series when it came to groups .

The 788 uses a totally different trigger than the 700, it's similar to the one used on the 580-581-582 22RF guns.
The 788 bolt handle is brazed, not welded. They had a tendency to break off when hot loads were used and the owner tapped the bolt handle to open the bolt. They could be re-welded but you had to be careful not to soften the locking lugs with too much heat. That's why 788 bolts are scarce.
