Sling studs for buffalo classic?
« on: November 10, 2010, 06:35:18 AM »
Picking up a Buffalo Classic tomorrow  :) but I'd like to put a sling on it.  The forend seemed pretty thin and I'm afraid there won't be enough wood to hold a stud?  I'm sure the stock would be fine though.  Do people use barrel clamp type setups for these, or how do you guys put slings on them?

I'm tossing the same problem around myself.  I have three BC Carbine stocks; a .45LC, a .357 Max and a .38-55.  I like a sling to free up your hands when you need it.  I'm thinking seriously about putting primitive slings on all of them.  They lace around the buttstock and the barrel without putting holes in the wood,  The primitive sling caused sighting problems with open sighted muzzleloaders by getting in the line of sight.  Not a problem now, because these are all scoped, and the leather is well below the objective lens.  Just a thought.

I put sling studs on my 45 Colt BC.  I placed the stud exactly one inch ahead of the forearm screw and it seems rock solid.  Like you I thought there wouldn't be much wood for support but when I removed the forearm I discovered the forearm channel is pretty shallow and there is a lot of wood there.

Going through this too- I have a Tracker2 20 gauge with the Buffalo Classic stock and forearm- I just received a Uncle Mike's 1591-2 barrel band today from Optics Planet and I have to say I am really disappointed in the quality and finish and I'm returning it. I have 4 other rifles with older UM barrel bands and the finish is superb- has there quality gone down ?-I see this one was made in China - weren't they made in Seattle at one time?

I sure hope they arent making what was the 'real deal' in China! Now I wonder if they are, or if some marketters are getting 'knock-off' and selling them to us?
I dont use a sling much anymore, too rarely to have one permantly attached, though Ive used a number of methods through the years. Get a small piece of rope to carry in your pocket for if you really need to sling it, but do know how to tie some decent knots.
