Week 3
« on: November 08, 2010, 05:44:11 AM »
I tell ya... Ima gonna take up something that has better odds of success... like the lottery!  I wouldda thought this weekend would be perfect!  Moon, temperature, everything!  And not a deer did I see!   :(  I may be reduced to eating beef this year!   :o

I did see another coyote.  It ran across right in front of me as I was driving in.  Headed for my stand!   >:(  Some time later, while I was watching 6 squirrels playing around on the ground, a deer snorted twice just beyond my limit of vision; about 40 yards away.  It couldn't have smelled me since it was upwind so I figure it may have spotted that coyote lurking around.

Let me tell you, when that deer snorted those squirrels were up a tree and gone!  Didn't come back for an hour or so either!   :D

My trail cam showed only two does and two fawns moving through last week.  Again, either right at or after dark.   :(

On the other hand, Tommy's trail cam picked up 4 or 5 new bucks!   :o  Including a REAL good 8 point we'd never seen before.  I'll try to get him to email me a copy so I can post it.  The big thing is, this bruiser went past the camara in daylight!   :o

I'm thinkin of going down on Wednesday this week.  It'll be the last time I'll be able to for a while.   :(

And how was your week?

Got sick, running a fever, lost my voice...had to work anyway.  Piled up Sat. and hit the anti histamines and aspirin and slept most of the day.  I probably would have felt just as good or better going hunting......

Grandson saw my 11 point in the yard by the well house, and said it calmly walked away when he approached.  Maybe I need to just give him the rifle....... 8)

I got up to go hunting Saturday morning but couldn't stop coughing and sneezing. I went Saturday evening and everything looked good. I sat listening patiently for almost 30 minutes just before dark waiting on what was supposed to be a deer. Just as it was getting to dark to see a great big possum waddled out. I put the scope on him to have a better look and I swear it looked like he was grinning at me. >:( He ate some eeerrra........ Acorns for several minutes and walked away.

Sure looks like it's gonna be a tough year

Wow - sorry about yer dry streak Richard.  :(   That field trip down my way is seeming more and more necessary now.   Maybe y'all chased all dem deers down south.  ??? ???   We have had a banner year so far, actually taken more venison than pork.  :)  We got 3 bucks and 3 does in archery/primitive season then since opening gun we got 6 more does and 4 more bucks.   They aint real big but dem swamp deers don't never git too big anyhoo.  Ima heading back to camp again dis weekend, to see what I can see....... ;D

Well,  :-\  I'm heading out again Wens. evening but I don't hold out to much hope.   :(  If I'm lucky one of those does will come by just before dark.  Tommy is out there every day now.  Seeing those bucks on his trail cam, especially that big one, has got him all fired up.

I'm doing more neighborhood improvement then anything.  Cleaning out the property line in the area I hunt and such.  So far I've come across NO rutting sign and very little deer sign at all .  I imagine the rut has come and gone...  :-\  Next year I think I'll put some Viagra in the water supply!  Maybe that will fire these bucks up!   :D

The fellas at our camp are just now starting to see signs of the rut this past week.   Seems to have come in late this year......the buck pix on my camsfrom two weeks ago do not show any of the physical signs yet.  I 'll see this Friday.
