500 S & W Magnum Scope Mount
« on: November 11, 2010, 01:59:33 PM »
I purchased a Handi Rifle from a Dealer that installed a heavy (Chinese) variable power Illumi-Dot scope.   Several weeks later, I tried to sight it in before deer season.   I waited because of the ammo cost.   The scope mounts are sliding all over the place.

Is there any remedy for this?   Oops, deer season starts in two days.

Check out the mounting screws, they may be loose or too long. On the hard recoiling calibers I use JB weld to bed the mount to the barrel and hold the screws tight . If you ever need to remove the mount be ready for a chore though!Another option id to Loc Tite the screws (see FAQs)
Good Luck

I use a Nikon 2x7 32 mm Prostaff on mine with loctite blue on  clean screws and base. This combo has held up better than I have . I shot it about 20 rounds today. 26-t ;D

Go get yourself QUALITY rings!!! I prefer Leupold, Warne and Burris. Proper mounting proceadures is in the FAQ's.
I have shot hundreds of rounds thru mine with Leupold PRW rings with zero POI shift.

You may get away with inferior mounts with light recoiling calibers. But not with a kicker!!!

this may be sacreligious, but deer season is 2 days away? Try a single layer of electrical tape around the scope under the rings, and next year get an appropriate scope/ring combination.
