rossi 92 in 44 mag ?
« on: November 05, 2010, 08:03:20 AM »
the local gun pusher here has a brand new one on his shefl.its the 24 inch octagonal barrel model at that in stainless too.what kind of volocity could i expect out of this.what kind of accuracy should i expect.what grain bullets do these things like.what kind of recoil should i expect with this gun.tell me everything you can think of about these guns.im about 90% sure im going to buy it.it was love at fisrt site with it.then i handled it an it points so great an the balance with that barrel is great.i have a brand new marlin 336 c in 35 rem an i think this rossi points an handles better.its cycles so smooth compared to the 336.the dealer wants $505 for it ,i know a little high (buds got them for $450 something),but im in a small town were everyone know s everybody an i like to support small local guys than big chain stores.im sure he can do better on price,i didnt try to dicker on price yet an he has always be willing to deal in the past.if i get it i know i would ditch the stupid safety an put a good peep site on it.let me know what you all think of these guns.
thanks

I've got the same rifle that you're looking at; blued and CCH receiver.  I absolutely love mine!   ;D  Without a doubt the most accurate lever gun I have and I thought my M73 45 Colt was darn near perfect!   :D

I put a tang sight on it and with Hornady 240 gr. XTP's it'll cut a ragged hole at 50 yards.  Haven't checked the velocity yet with 20.5 gr. of 2400, but it's already hammered one deer!

I'v got the same one also blued and wile I'm a die- hard marlin fan I realy do like it a lot it shoots great have not taken any game with it yet but hope to change that this year. AtlLaw I am shooting the same load but useing speer 240 gr.SP and getting 1650 FPS so you should be getting close to that, with H-110 and W-296 I'm getting around 1750 FPS.
Try and dicker with the price and get the gun you will realy like it, I know I do.

I have the blued 24" .357 and have been checking the shows for a .44mag.  If you plan on mounting a tang sight, just make sure you check that the barrel is mounted straight into the receiver.

Get it, you'll like it.  My first one was a 44 with the 20" round barrel, has dropped a lot of mule deer.  Added 2-454 Casull's and  2-357 Mags to the group.  DP

i figured i update everyone an let you know that i picked it up yesterday.i think that my 35 rem marlin is retired for the rest of the year.i love this gun.i need to figure out a way to sling this gun without taping the stock an forend.can i get a but stock cuff that has a sling mount in it.the sights are not the greatest but useable, plan on puting a marbles on the rear an some kind of bead front sight.today i put 7 rounds into about 1.5 inches at almost 50yrds.
thanks
