reloading the 30x39
« on: November 20, 2010, 03:32:26 PM »
I have a ssk barrel in 30x39. I've got a 7.62x39 die set with it. not sure about the die set, am I going to need a speical die or maybe just a .308 decapping rod?
Thanks.

Just use a .308 diameter expander ball. The 30x39 is very accurate
in my Encore rifle barrel.

Most die sets come with both a 311 and a 308 expander ball.  If not you can borrow an expander ball from another 30 caliber die set, or chuck your decapping rod/expander ball  assembly into a drill and polish it with sandpaper while spinning it in a drill until it measures .308.  It would be easiest to use a expander ball from another die though!

Thanks. That's what I thought and my father-in-law may have already done it. I'll mic. it today. Want to share a bullet weight and powder to start out with. Interested in a whitetail round, 150 lbs deer is a nice one around here.
