Maverick Shotguns by Mossberg
« on: December 11, 2003, 03:44:59 AM »
I was shopping for a Christmas/birthday present for a friend's son and came across a Maverick 12 guage pump made by Mossberg.  The price was incredibly right, and the shotgun looked pretty good.  It carries a matt finish with a ramped bbl and a double gold bead on the ramp (one midway down the bbl and the other at the end of it) and a synthetic stock.  The counter person at Wally-Mart couldn't tell me anything about it other than to point to the large decal on the stock saying Made in America By Mossberg.

When I handled it it looked and felt exactly like a Mossberg 500 pump, period.

Does anyone know anything about this brand of shotgun?  Is this a brand name made for Wal-Marts, in the same manner Marlin would make Glenfields and the like?  If this is a Mossberg 500 under a brand name, I'm gonna grab two for the price but I need some insights and advice as to whether this will be a reliable purchase.

Thanks to all in advance.  Mikey.

Mikey,
There are some subtle differences between the Model 500 and Maverick.

Mikey,
I bought one last Christmas for my son and he absolutely loves it. He wanted the synthetic stock instead of the Model 500 wood stock next to it on the rack. The biggest difference I can see between the two is the Maverick has a cross-bolt safety in the trigger guard as opposed to the tang safety of the 500. Barrels and choke tubes interchange between the two models.
