I was  browsing  Cast Boolit's.com and came across some posts by a fellow who goes by John in PA.

He has built a Mould and sizer for his parrot rifle.  I have invited him over here.

This is for Norm and the other members that belong to organizations that fire the full size stuff.

Those links bring a question to mind: Are there any rules/guidelines that prescribe that the projectiles have to resemble the originals to some degree, or are you free to use your imagination?

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Apparently you can make anything you like as some of them shoot oversize air gun pellets.

The restrictions are for weight only. Design is up to you. John is a first rate cannoneer. Makes the trip to Camp Grayling fairly often.

Thanks for your reply, Guardsgunner: This information is kind of surprising to me, especially considering the fact that the 'N-SSA' has such defined requirements for the authentic appearance of the artillery pieces themselves.

Does the 'American Civil War Shooting Association' allow the same margin of freedom for designing the projectiles used in their competitions?

John has shot perfect scores at Grayling, and was one of the major spokespersons on the History Channel's "Artillery Games" program that was aired a couple of years ago.

Since the NSSA requires reduced weight projectiles and powder charges compared to original loads, you are basically forced to come up with innovative projectiles.  The design that John uses has gained quite a few followers due to his success with it.
