« on: November 13, 2010, 05:04:35 AM »
The maxi has earned its way. Hour after day light 2 does came out. They got to around 90 yards one took a shot low in the ribs, went about 100 yards and stopped, took shot #2 in the neck.Down.
Cleaned out first deer, got back in stand little deformed 3 pnt came out to 75 yards. I rushed the shot clean miss. Went out to about 75 yards the other side of me, walking away. spine shot it Dead !

Shooting Speer 180 gr flat nose Hot core. Hot load of AA1680.

Better than last year in the first few hours. Also seeing a lot of deer checked in at the check station. Hunters are on a roll. ;)

Will get picts up this evening.

Don't shoot them all before I get there!! I'll be there tonight.

Good shooting!

i passed on two small bucks and one doe. just don,t like to kill them in hot weather.  guy next door shot a big ten point he got excited and shot the right side rack off. i told him you could not eat the horns anyway. but i don,t think it made him feel any better

Steve, tomorrow should be a good day. Suppose to be cooler in the morning and all day ;)

I normally would not have shot a small buck. But its rack consist of one 7" horn and on the others side 2 2" spikes. Needed out of the gene pool. Thats my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Went out after lunch. for 3 hrs I listened to the wind and not a single gun shot, none. Where we hunt you can usually count the shots as long as you want. But the deer turned off like fish :(

Kids are disappointed. Between the 3 kids they seen one deer >:( My boy has the flu I think :o I told him to suck it up and get over it  ;D

Overall today was pretty good. Hope you all had a good one.

Sounds like you had a great hunt...

I am hunting a great place aswell... I had 2 does within 15yds at daylight. Then a mature doe about 8:30 came in about the same distance. I am hunting 30yds inside the woods from a bean field. Then about 9:00 another mature doe came in from the bean field and went past me at 10 yds. Then at 9:30 I saw an orange hat across the bean field walking on the edge of the woods about 250 yds away. A few minutes later he spooked 4 does that ran right to my side of the bean field. They stood there at 50 yds not knowing which way to run. One of them came across the fence 30yds from me, then they all left out and ran to another woods. Talk about excitement! Then at 10:30, 2 large does and a large shooter buck ran across this bean field towards my stand and stopped 70 yds down from me. I was ready.. but I had no shot. There were trees blocking my view of the buck. Within a minute they were gone, and I missed my chance at a good one. The wind picked up and I climbed down and went home and finished sealing a deck.
This was the most exciting day deer hunting I have had in a long time.. and did not even shoot my gun. I had choosen to wait on a good buck. I have already taken a doe with my bow.
I am off Monday and Tuesday and its going to be cooler... I might take another doe if it stays cool. I am hunting about 200yds from a bedding ground in the woods. About 50% of the days I've hunted, I have seen does walking in the woods about 10AM towards that area. It is near the land owners home and they are not bothered there and it is the thickest part of the woods. It is a great place to hunt...
My buddy lives south of Corydon and he just bought a Handi in 44mag. I loaded him some xtp's and he harvested a buck at 110 yds. It went 20yds and then down. He said it had an exit hole about the size of his thumb.
I am very thankful to have good health and have good place to hunt, close to my home. I hope you all enjoy this deer season and fill your freezers...

Mike

Sounds like a super day hunting! It sounds like you have the deer, just not in the freezer yet.  ;)

Good luck and keep us posted. Same with the rest of you fellars.
