homemade ML bullet
« on: November 07, 2010, 09:40:10 AM »
Ok the why only lead in sabots thread started this
7/16" round stock turned down to .430"  .995" long, 5/16" concave point
263.5gr  80 gr. 777  T/C 44/50 sabot. Target at 50yds.
The cooler is 16" inside packed with magazines and paper filled with water soaked about 20 min. picture is of the last magazine.
The catch log is pine, bullet was at 8".  I don't think penetration will be an issue, need to test for accuracy.
Only made one took 20min. Had to shoot it!  No expansion measured .430" out of the log, could reuse it.
Shot to same poi as 240gr cast.
No real reason for doing this other than inquiring minds wanted to know.

I am a machinist and I have been going to do the same thing. My hollow point will be bigger and deeper. I have even thought about using the mill and drilling holes through the sides of the hollow point to cause some cutting to the organs from hydrolic presure. I guess I need to get my butt in gear and do some testing to see if it will work!!! If it doesn't I will put a hole to blood trail!!!

Yeah this one wasn't very fancy just almost bullet shaped. :D
I haven't decided what i would need them for, just something to keep me from
the couch an tv.
The penetration wouldn't be an issue, do you think the wound channel is big enough?
I was going for the WFN effect as far as tissue damage because expansion is out.

Like I said just killing time but I have a bunch of rod, maybe I'll see a deer in an armored car!
