Finally tried a 20ga.

Ive never been a shotgunner (raised to aim deliberately with a .22) but have ended up with a few 'just in case'. But those 12s are not very pleasant for me, even with the recoil pad buttstock I put on an old model Partner, and trap rather than field loads, so Ive not done much with them.
As it is, a 20ga. barrel came along that fits the 12s frame and is it ever a delight with the 1oz #6 loads Ive been using.
Now I understand what you all where sayin'!

Yah, I like my .410, but there are instances where I wanted a bit more, but not 12.  I switched and picked up a 20 ga. Mossberg 500 and I'm loving it.  Haven't played with the slug barrel yet, but I really enjoy shooting it more than the 12 ga.  ;)

20 is the way to go. ;)
I did a poll on here a while ago asking which Pardner was the most popular... the 20 won by a landslide.
I have a smoothbore 20 slugger with fiber optic rifle sights on it... it shoots great and makes a perfect woods gun.

I was raised on a 12ga and that was all I used for 20+ years, then my uncle gave me a 20ga and I loved it, that's been all I have used ever since  ;D

  I was raised on the 12ga. too. After 50 years of the 12 i switched to a 20 for all my small game hunting. Not an H&R but an old Western Auto Revelation pump that i picked up cheap. Sure is a lot easier on my old busted up shoulder. ;D.

I love my NEF 20! I have more expensive shotguns and the single 20 goes with me more than any of them.

I always shot skeet with a 12. I had my Beretta fitted with 20 and my scores are now consistantly between 23 to 25. The difference in the recoil makes it much easier to make the second shot on doubles.

If so then the 20 would be my favorite for woods carry. (I have only carried the 12; it weighs 6 pounds, as I recall.)

The next shotgun I'm going to get is a NEF 10 gauge. :P Number 4 Buckshot should do for the critters around here (feral dog/cat).

My 12 gauge coach gun with the louden boomer buckshot and rifled slugs just ain't doing it for me in regards to muzzle blast and recoil.

Of note, I can only shoot a shotgun with careful and slow aim; front sight and squeeeeeeeeeeeze.  Just like a rifle or pistol.  I find wing shooters to be magicians.

 I am recoil sensitive(yea a wus) I have been shooting since i was about 13. My favorite go to has been a Mossy 12 ga which after a day of shooting always had me sore. I read an article about pull length and proper fitting guns. Now my Mossy has a shorter stock and does not beat me up. Most of our Handis wear short furniture now ;)

That said. I have a 20 ga Ultra slug, 20 ga Mossy RB and vent rib, 20 pardner shorty smooth bore scoped that loves sluggers. They all get carried more than the 12 ga's  ;)

       With today's advancements in wads, chokes and slugs I think a 20 ga. of today will do what a 12 wold do 50 years ago. I don't hardly feel a need at all for my 12's any more except for those I keep for defense.

  Now what am I gonna do with all these lonely 12 gauges?

maybe get your 12's fitted with 20 ga insert tubes?
