Magazine lengths

I re-barreled my T3 from 243 to 257 Roberts and wonder if, provided my throat allows me to seat the bullets out longer in the case, if I could use a 30-06 mag.
Does anyone have experience with this? 
The actions are all one length and the mags are too, but with blocks toward the rear to accommodate short and shorter case lengths...

Might be easier to file material off of a short mag rather than hope the long one doesn't cause "short stroking". I suppose you might be able to build up a long one. I can't say as I could see a way of disassembling one of them to tinker with.

Still wonder what a standard length mag, with bullets set out might feed like.

I've put 6.5x55 barrels on Savage 30-06 actions and they fed perfect.  The 257 roberts is about the same length and diameter as the swede round so I would think you would have no problems in the Tikka.

The only thing you would have to do to the Tikka is change the bolt stop.  Right now it's set for the medium length magazine.  To be able to operate the bolt properly (full length)  for the long (30-06) magazine you'll have to change the bolt stop.  Not a big deal and the part is available from Beretta USA.
