Best bullet for hog?

I went hunting down in GA for hog with my 300 win mag.  I have been reloading 180 gr gamekings and hunting with them.  They are fine for whitetails but I had some issues hunting hog with them.  They seem to explode on impact.  What would be a good premium bullet for hogs?  I have been considering nosler partitions and accubonds as well as interbonds, leaning mostly towards partitions.

Nosler Partitions are Premium bullets.  Small hole in.  Similar small hole out.  MUCH internal energy transfer.  MANY/MOST DRT hits with NP's, provided you do your part.  I now use them exclusively for hogs and deer in my Mod 70 Win 270 Classic Featherweight.  I have tried a lot of others.  Some bullets will give very good results.  Some offer poor results (as in Nosler Ballistic Tips and Speer Grand Slams).  The BT's were the MOST accurate, one-raggedy hole, 5-shot target groups, but on game they were too frangible, left ghastly exit wounds, and most times copper in the meat.  GS's went right through and kept going.  Not too much energy transfer.  I learned the art of tracking wounded game the season I shot all GS's and I am a VERY GOOD SHOT from a steady rest.  Speer Boat-Tailed Spire Points and Hornady bullets are two other excellent less expensive choices.

Hogs are not that tough to kill.  Make good shots.  Aim small. Miss small.  Use a steady rest.  There are just too many trees not to use one for support.

The issue I was having with the gamekings is they seemed to explode on impact.  I killed about a 100 lb sow.  I hit her just behind the shoulder and got both lungs.  The entrance wound looked like an exit wound.  She went maybe 50 yds and dropped.  I hit a boar that was a little bigger in the shoulder that I never found.  I rolled it with the shot and it was on its back kicking which made me think he was dead and caused me to relax and then all of a sudden it hopped to its feet and started running and got into a pine thicket.  I found a bone fragment and a little blood.  I searched for him for about 5 hours and never found him.  The best I can figure is that I shattered the shoulder and never hit vitals.

I reread my earlier post and want to clarify...bullets that kill game DRT I should not characterize as "poor results".  Those Nosler BT's did the job completely and with ultimate confidence in me as the shooter, but with significantly greater destruction on game than the Partition's (by comparison).  The Speer GS's also did the job, blowing completely through and killing the game, but only after allowing them to run far away, nearly losing some, and shot placements were equal to or similar to the NP's and BT's.  So I do not recommend either a very strong, punch-through type, or frangible type bullet.

I shoot 150 gr. bullets exclusively in the 270.  That doesn't mean that other weights (130, 140, 165, and 170) would be any better or worse.  I got initially "into" the 150's when I started reloading and stayed with what works for me.  Although I like 170 gr bullets in the Win and Marlin 30-30's.

My hunting partner shoots a Sako 243 (a smokin' hot and fast rifle/bullet combination) and uses 100 gr. NP's with excellent results on deer and hogs....both big ones and the little "footballs".

Most hogs I have killed were with 150 grn sierra spitzers in 30-06 or 140 grn sierra boattails in 7mm mauser. All but one fell where they were shot. One traveled 30 yards. I don't shoot premium bullets, never had a need for them but I only hunt whitetail and hogs. As has been stated on many occasions shot placement is every thing. Oh, 1  was a head shot with the 06. Took half it's head off, was just under 100 lb

Remington SPCL or for spitzers PSPCL. They work fine. On a BIG hog they may fail. If so, find the nastiest solid (WFP) you can find and drill him in the lungs. Or angle up from a facing away hog and take out the lungs. Both would work.
