Selling hides
« on: November 11, 2010, 11:25:11 AM »
Hi, it's been thirty years since I have done any trapping, but the raccoons are so thick in my deer woods that I want to thin them out a bit, so am going to trap this year. I know how to skin coons, and in the past I just took the hides or the whole animal in to the fur buyer. My question is this. If I have to hold them over for a day or two, should I just freeze them, treat the skin side with salt, or whatever?  Thanks in advance.   Dave

Never salt a pelt you are taking to a fur buyer to sell.If it is only a daY or two, you can refrigerate them--if its any longer, freeze them and thaw them out before you sell them.
 What state are you in?

I totally agree with Tom. Especially since the report I go by states that coon is being bought the most right now by the fur buyers.
