Handi Rifle iron sights
« on: November 19, 2010, 08:52:02 AM »
Hi All - My Handi Rifle is equipped with iron sights (20" barrel, 22 Hornet).  I noticed that with the iron sights I have to cock the hammer back in order to get a good sight picture.  Is this true of all Handi Rifles with iron sights?

Thanks!

Yes, unless you change your sights.

you could probably file down the tip of the hammer a bit and get your eye to clear it (or put a tiny notch there and make it into a second rear sight?).  on mine, I permanently mounted a riser on the stock and put the sights up high (almost max) so I can see mine over the hammer BUT it's blurry.  not to be sarcastic but when I'm aiming in at the range or in the woods I cock the hammer as I bring up the gun not after so I never really have to deal with it anyways.

a scope on a slim rile that handles quick... especially in a "short-range" caliber... I don't know about that.  besides, he'd probably need a hammer extension then....

You are not the only one who dislikes the Colt peacemaker hammer on these. Look up the the low profile hammer mods. I am about ready to order the topper hammers and springs for all of mine.

Cocked rifle with a transfer bar is safe as long as you keep your finger off the trigger. Still, dont point it where a bullet shouldnt go because that is smart.
