Break Action Sgl. Shot
« on: November 21, 2010, 11:16:51 AM »
So here I am, liking my inexpensive and satisfactory H&Rs and I go to the local 'emporium' complete with dark wood paneling, leather chairs and, shall we say, 'exclusive offerings'. I am on one end and comment to my wife about the exquisite wood and she says from the other end, "this one is pretty". I go to see, and yes it is, VERY 'pretty'. A break action single shot, hand engraved and checkered, in classic style, a caliber I know and love (30-06), open sights as well as Leupold glass and I dont know how many -X- wood. MERKEL, K2, I think, $3500 (which may actually be a good buy). I say to my honey, Christmas is just around the corner.........
Now I must add, she is not the epitomy of restraint, likes to shoot, and guns (especially 'pretty' guns) and is prone to 'humor' me. In other words, a saint.
But I dont think this one is going to be under the tree.
BTW, I did look them up on the 'net and they are supposed to do about 1 1/2" @100yd. out of the box so why should it matter if our Handi's ONLY do as well?

Yeah, Doug.......maybe get both and 'cost average' them?
Ive looked a little futher on the product line and the one I saw may be a K1, a less expensive model to start with, though still very nice. I wonder if I could take something like that outside, or would it have to stay in its hermetically sealed chamber?

The K1 I think is a bolt action switch barrel. If you want high end the Blaser K95 would be tough to beat for a production rifle. Comparing a Handi to a Merkel or a Blaser is like comparing a Makita grinder to a cnc mill. They both remove metal, but that is where the similarity ends.

Bet them purdy ones kill better to. NOT! Some of them look very nice, but I think dragging it around the woods would be a shame.

Maybe just tie that deer-drag rope on the trigger guard and go deer trolling?
Somehow I think I probably wouldnt shoot it any better than I do any of my Handi's.......
I took a look through some Baser stuff (just to see, kinda like going to the Mecedes site) and somebody had a Blaser canvas and leather bag for sale.....at $350 !!!

I am sure lots of deer have been killed with a club too, so is a club the equal of a handi?

You'd have to ask the deer.......

How many handi rifles will $3500. buy.  I'd ask for about 12 handi rifles instead.

12 handi's might pay for the wood upgrade on a K95.
