Misfires are about to do me in. But there is a good side.
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:19:36 AM »
As some of you are aware about the 35 Whelen that would not shoot(misfires). I now have a new 30 30 that is only 70 t0 80 % misfires. You know that I am really happy about that. ::)
I shall call for a shipping label and go throught the ordeal once again. No, I am not going to try to fix it. It's a new gun, and misfires are unacceptable with me.

But now for the other side of the story: Friday afternoon, my grandson, just turned six years of age, got his first really large doe. I had cut the stock down to 61/4 inches. He is a very small boy. I had purchased a 20 in. 243 bbl and loaded him some 85 gr. Sierra youth loads. He missed a doe last week about 80 yards out, but he scored on this one. Really made PAWPAW happy.
By the way, there has never been a misfire with that 243.
I just purchased a new set of BC furniture from Spanky for my 30 30. I bet that will stop the misfires. ;) YOU THINK????

Congrats to you and your grandson!!   H&R Has a new transfer bar that should help with the FTFs if it's not something else.

Sorry to hear the FTFs. Seems to be a rash of them lately!!!

I know you said you where not going to fix and likely also read the other posts on the topic. But just for future people searching...  H&Rs are plagued with weak main springs. Changing to a Wolff spring, available direct from Wolff generally fixes this. As I say, its a known problem and a proven fix. While your at it, check pin protrusion at the breech face, should be about .040, This can be increased with a careful grinding of the top of the hammer where it strikes the frame above the transfer bar.

As Tim like to tell us... ITS IN THE FAQ's!!  ::)

CONGRATULATIONS with the grand baby's deer!!!

I would agree with returning for the trans bar upgrade. I had terrible misfires from my .308 until I sent it in. Since then it's not misfired once, and I've prob ran 2 boxes of shells through it so far. Trigger feels nicer too, so I don't know if they tooled it while it was there, or it's my imagination. Either way, the whole thing was free.
Congrats on the doe!
