Santa's bringing a Handi 7mm08 for my 10 year old. Looking for recommendations on low recoil ammo.

Thanks

Can't recommend a brand, and it was buying factory ammo for the 7-08 that finally gave me the nudge needed to start loading, but your going to want something in 120grn or less.
The 150's still have a thump and I didn't find any that where near accurate enough for me. Settled on a factory 140 for Deer hunting. I'm currently loading Nosler ballistic tips in 120 for target/trigger control practice and even at max you can shoot those all day.
Get the 10yr old a shoulder padded vest and teach him to hold tight to the shoulder, If the Handi your getting has a padded butt plate good, if not, cut the stock and put one on. It's way worth the cost as opposed to getting a flincher, and replacing it with another longer stock as he grows is cheap,(35-50 on the stuff for sale forum).

I loaded one lite years ago for my wife. I do not remember the load, but the bullet was the Speer 130SP. She shot one deer with that load and it worked well enough.

I shot a couple deer with a 7-30 in both a contender 14" and a 22" carbine barrel too. The factory load was a pretty good one as was the Nosler 120 FP Solid Base bullet. (Doesn't help I know) But the 140 BT is another good choice as its fairly fragile, yet at reduced velocities works like a good premium bullet. I used the first gen Barnes X bullet in 120 Grain for two hogs from the contender. The first was a 250lb boar at about 40 yards. I shot him high thru the shoulders and again going away. I recovered the last bullet up in his chest. Picture perfect expansion. The second was a bit bigger and farther away. This one I hit lower thru the leg bone and into the vitals lodged in the ribs on the off side. Again perfect expansion right to the base of the hollow point. Neither broke off and pedals. Both of those where from the 14" barrel in Waters. That should be near the velocity you would look at for a reduced load in the 7/08.
