Sidekick ramrod extending past end barrel
« on: October 02, 2009, 03:18:14 PM »
hello everyone

i have one of those failures in engineering known as the sidekick  ramrod, and since the threads are the wrong size for most accessories i have a thread adapter and i'm shooting hornady sst 250 so i have the special loading jag for it, all in all when the ramrod is collapsed and inside of the stock the ramrod extends about .75 inches past the end of the barrel.

i was wondering if the ramrod extending past the barrel can effect the accuracy af the firearm, i was thinking that the sabot might open up and one of the petals would hit the ramrod. is this an issue or am i just thinking too much.

Thanks Zack

I believe you are thinking to much.
I have shot for years with a couple of TC MZs that the rod stuck out past the barrel at least that much with no problems at all.
I think the sabot will not really open up until it is well out of the barrel.
I wouldn't worry about it.

It won't affect anything.

My old one was about 2" past cause of the jag I left on it.

It was fine.

Rossi makes and exact replacement for the NEF Sidekick muzzleloader ramrod. See link here:

No contest, the Hubbard by far. Rossi only has 20" and 23" barrels as far as I know, the Huntsman's and Sidekicks have 24" and 26" barrels.
