LIMBSAVER RECOIL PADS ON H&R/NEF RIFLES
« on: December 09, 2010, 05:42:24 AM »
Has anyone out there had or have a HandiRifle with a Limbsaver Recoil Pad installed?  Do you recommend it? I've got a 35 Whelen HandiRifle that I could sure use one on!  When I look at catalogs (including Limbsaver's WebSite) they seem to list a "pre-fit" Limbsaver recoil pad for synthetic stocks (sounds like it excludes wood or laminated). However, I would think that the "pre-fit" should still fit on the wood and laminated.  If not they do make "grind to fit" recoil pads as well.  Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Like Tim said, all the details are in the FAQ's but I put one on my 45-120 and like it a lot!

The limbsaver pad is what allows me to comfortably shoot 3.5" magnum 2 ounce turkey loads out of my 6lb H&R turkey shotgun.    No more bruises.   I don't hunt without it.

Ouch, you had to remind me of shoot 3 1/2" magnums.  They hurt in single shots.  Expecially in my TCR/12ga.  My NEF 12ga does no have any recoil pad.  Glad it won't shoot 3 1/2" shells.

hey Sourdough - if you have access to a Limbsaver slip on give it a try.   It really makes a world of difference in the shotgun.   I was ready to sell mine before putting the Pad on.   Now it is a different animal - not tame by any means but very manageable.

When my son was shopping he found an 870 3.5". I asked him why he wanted that? He said well I don't now but I might someday and then I'll have it. ::) How can you argue with that?

Besides he shoots his 12 ga. Pardner more than anything else anyway.

Ya know............probable almost all questions can be answered or closely answered in the FAQ's.  But the FAQ's aren't updated daily, and more often than not they don't cover the whole field of a question. Whats the point of sitting around the fire asking questions during a chit chat which brings up new ideas and suggestions when all you're told is go to the library kid...........  The FAQ's are Handi (Pun intended) but they are not always that helpful  This thread is a good example....the FAQ's do not answer the question "When I look at catalogs (including Limbsaver's WebSite) they seem to list a "pre-fit" Limbsaver recoil pad for synthetic stocks (sounds like it excludes wood or laminated). However, I would think that the "pre-fit" should still fit on the wood and laminated."........least I don't think they do.  maybe I missed it.

Willie, the Limbsavers are very much worth the price.  I have one that is grind to fit on a wood stock Handi and one on a synthetic stock.  The one on the synthetic will not fit a wood stock because it has a raised lip that sits down inside the hollow stock.  Also it is not a perfect fit, off about a 16th of a inch or so at the top, at least mine is, but close enough I leave it on for the benefit.  With the 45 Colt BC I use a slip on Limpsaver when at the bench during a long session due to the steel butt plate but remove it when in the field.

Try the Slip-on, adds about 1" LOP, and if you like the effect but not the long LOP, trim the stock, put the factory pad back on, and put the slip-on over it to get back your standard LOP. Nothing like 2 recoil pads for us recoil wimps! Turned my Tracker II 20ga slug gun into a shoot-all-day at the range, from a 5 shot shoulder killer. For what it is worth.
