casting mark inside slide
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:22:17 AM »
i was cleaning my p95 and noticed what looks like a spot where the slide wast cast. its inside my slide down underneath where the barrel goes. its a small swirl that about 1/4 inch long, its not a crack as i looked on top and its not thru and its not very deep either but a tooth pick will catch. is it normal to find casting flaws in the slides? i've fired this gun about 50 times and it performs great just didn't notice that spot before. i tried taking pics but i just get glare, thanks for any help.

I wouldn't say normal but quite possible to find casting imperfections on any investment cast guns. Just shoot it and forget it's there. The 9mm doesn't generate enough pressure to make the P95 come apart.

It's existance doesn't make it a "flaw".  A big part of what keeps Ruger's in the realm of affordability is they don't spend the extra time doing fine polishing.  Don't worry about it if it works as it should.

i emailed ruger this morning, just got a response. they said that the mark is where they were finishing the slide, and a small piece of slide instead of grinding down just flaked out and it would be ok.

Didn't think it was an issue. The old "Saturday Night Specials" were made much cheaper than Rugers and they shot fine with factory ammo. I still have a couple pocket pistols and shoot them every now and again.
