Model 94 W/4"
« on: November 28, 2010, 12:13:33 PM »
Hi guy's. I was wondering if anyone can offer some advise about a problem with my new 94. I bought the gun a few weeks ago to use as a trap line gun. I took it to the range and found it to be very tight. By this I mean that the tolerances between the cylinder and the frame/forcing cone are tight. The cylinder was tough to close and whole shooting the cylinder would bind up. After shooting it a while approx 200 rounds she seems to have freed up bit. What I am getting now is when I get to the last round the cylinder binds up. This makes no sense to me. I also experienced a lot of misfire at first but, that self corrected the more I shot it. I now have no misfires. Any advise / suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

I once had the same problem and filed a tad off the forcing cone with a nail file. It fixed the problem. I filed just enough to see "daylight" between the cylinder and the forcing cone at all 6 chamber settings since they differ slightly. Once I had daylight on all 6 cockings you are set. Did the same thing with a S&W and had the same good results. But if unsure you may want to send it back to Taurus. Just saying what worked for me.

Oh, I meant to add. The binding is usually caused by residue filling in the forcing cone and cylinder gap.

I had this happen with more than one new revolver including S&W, Ruger and a Uberti. A little filing on the rear of the barrel until I had a couple thousandths more clearance was all that was needed. I still have one of the rugers I did this to and after 30 years it is still working well.

Exactly, Nick. Revlon makes a nice aluminum file they sell at cosmetic counters that works well.
