New Face in the Crowd
« on: December 30, 2003, 02:02:08 AM »
Hello everyone, I just registered here and have been reading some of the topics submitted. I am interested in .22 target shooting and hunting. I currently own a Remington Model 541T that I use for target shooting and squirrel hunting. I am in the market for another similar rifle that I can use for both and be satisfied. I am currently looking at a Kimber SVT and an Anshutz 64 MP-R. The weight has never bothered me hunting like it does a lot of people, so heavy barrels are a must for me. I also would like to know if anyone is aware of any place in Northern Kentucky that I could get involved in competition target shooting. I havn't used any ammo other than CCI Green Tag in the Remington but it doesn't seem to be very consistent. Does anyone have other ammo suggestions and/or shoot the same rifle as I do?

The NRA sanctions metallic silhouette competition for small bore rifles just as for others. Check with them for info on clubs holding shoots in your area. Bound to be some relatively near.

My wife and I both own and shoot the Remington 541T. Ours shoot a variety of ammo well. Here is a link to a review I did of a variety of ammo shot in my personal 541T.

For squirrel hunting I prefer the CCI Small Game Bullet but CCI HPs have seen a lot of use this way also. I used more CCI HPs back in my silhouette competition shooting days than all other ammo combined. From the number of 1st and 2nd place finishes I had I'd say the ammo sure didn't hurt my scores. Using that same combination my wife won first place in the only match she ever shot it. Was a women's only match held on the back yard range of a friend. I guess there were maybe 10-12 shooters.

Thanks so much for the reply. I'm glad to hear from someone with the same equipment, I really love this little rifle. Do you happen to know where I could get a magazine made of all metal, the plastic mags are the biggist fault that I can find with the rifle.

i had a kimber svt and hunted with it for 3 years. it was a good shooting gun, but after two months of hunting my elbows would be very tender. thats the only reason i sold it. using the money to build the ultimate ligth ruger 10/22 hunting gun. i order a vaquartsen fiber barrel, bell stock witch iv modified to make even ligther. when im done gun will be under 5lbs.
