just curious, whats the farthest south you have seen a moose?....

Don't laugh but I saw one at a range in Sturbridge Massachusetts as I was sighting in my TC Contender with a 375 JDJ barrel on it. Sturbridge is on the Connecticut border.

Mack...the only moose that I know of in MASS or CONN have wandered down from NH.VT ot ME.  Funny, they meander down along the median strip of major highways during the night as there's plenty of cover.

All the liberal moose are driven south out of Maine by the smart ones.

Back in the 1980's, I was a CT State Trooper.  One young bull was shot and killed by Troopers with their new Beretta 9mm's in a corn field that bordered I-84 in Southbury, CT. after it "charged them".  (BS - I knew two of the shooters.  They, along with a local Constable, and a volunteer fireman had the moose surrounded with their vehicles.  When the moose tried to trot away, between the cars, the fireman pannicked and opened fire then, they all started shooting)  Two years later, another young bull was noted in a field again alongside I-84 in Newtown, CT.  (Not far from Southbury)  DEP tried to dart it, and ended up killing it.   So, that far south, at least.

I actually saw one less then a week ago in North Salem NY.  North Salem is located in westchester county and is a little shy of an hour north of NYC.  I work at a tree farm and it was spooked inside our fenced area.  I had to pass close to it to open the other gate so we could push it out of the fenced area. I was around 25 feet away.  He was a young bull nice spread but lacking paddles.  First moose Ive ever seen I think even in a zoo.  It was an awsome experience.  We get them around here every couple years but this is the farthest south I've heard of.

Wonder why those folks thought they had to dart that moose?

I've watched moose hop over 4 to 4.5 foot fences. For quite a few years my dad would have moose in his yard in Anchorage AK.  I think they liked to get into his yard as the fences kept dogs and such from bothering them - and they liked to eat the old pea vines and stuff he had.  Had to be watchful tho. Any time of year there was a chance of stumbling on a moose or two in the yard - and he lived pretty much in the middle of town.
