« on: January 05, 2011, 04:26:30 PM »
hello;

recoil of 444 marlin is an issue for someone.  anyone reload their 444 marlin to the performance of a 44 magnum, both in cast bullets and jacket bullets???  if so, reload data?  thanks for any input.

Other than using start loads with a powder like A5744, Trail Boss loading guidelines would work, so would GMDR data if you only want to shoot cast.

I've run 45.0grs IMR3031 under a 240 gr Speer HP for a reduced load in my 444S. Velocity is right at 1500'ps outa mine. I won't use a lead bullet in anything of mine except the antiques and they get shot very seldom.

I shoot mostly cast in mine. Look @ Lyman Rl book. I use 245 gr cast w/ 14 -16 gr of Blue dot or unique, 300gr with 18 to 22 gr of 2400. I think the old lyman book shows a 232 gr cast and 17 gr of unique as an accuracy load @ 1745 fps. I use also 20 gr of 2400 and a 245 gr 429421 bullet which gives me a 1 1/2 group @ 75 yards, have taken many deer with this load. Lyman is the best source for cast loads that I have found.
