Cheep gas
« on: December 15, 2010, 03:29:55 AM »
I just filled up my tahoe yesterday $3.34 a gallon. Over $60 to fill it up.  :'(

Anyone remember 19cent a gallon gas?  I do.

I remember it being 29.9, whatever that means, and my mother would go to the service station and ask for $2 worth for the week. That was in the late 60s.

I worked in a gas station in high school when gas pretty much averaged around .30 a gallon however I was making a $1.60 an hour. When my father let me borrow his SS396 El Camino it only got around eight miles per gallon, especially with a 17 year old's foot on the throttle! Compared to what I make now at $3.00 a gallon gas is cheaper now and my car gets a solid 30 mpg.

pastrop     I remember gas at 19 cents a gallon. In that year we filled up a 55 gallon drum with a gas and oil mixture for 50 something dollars for a remote fishing trip to Quebec, Canada. The good old days. I recall heating oil at 11 cents a gallon. ;D

In the 50s gas was $.19 a gallon in most places.  I remember seeing 19 on all the gas signs.  I remember fuel oil being .8 cents a gallon, and how my Dad complained.

Last night I paid $3.759 to fill up my S-10.  Diesel is $3.849.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Yes, back when they had gas wars.

One station trying to put the other out of business seeing who could get the price the lowest for the longest.

Back in 1972 a gas war was going on in Richmond va. At the off brand stations it got down to 15 9/10 per gal. My car held 11 gal. a fill up was under $1.75  ;D Yesterday I filled up the Ram 2500 it took 30 gal and was over 75 dollars  >:(
.410 shells were 10 cent each back then also and 2 cheese burgers , fries and milk shake was under a buck .50

Here gas is $2.85 and up or $2.75 at Sams club
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I remember it at $0.87 per gallon - and that was only back in the late 90's :(.  Still not as bad here as what some of you are quoting.  I saw one station at $2.85 earlier today.

I can remember the 19 cent stuff and it would drop to 17 cents when someone would start a gas war. Of course back then if you made a $400 a month you had an excellent paying job.

I bought the house I live in in 1963 and paid a nickle a gallon for propane to heat it. After a couple of years the dealer went up to 7 cents a gallon. I was ticked at that price increase. Two years ago I paid $1.85 a gallon and that was with a price break for buying over 400 gallons (I fill my daughter's tank at the same time) and 5 cents a gallon off for cash. Last year it dropped to $1.10 and this fall it had climbed back to $1.45. Of course you have to add the state's 6.75% gouge to that. In '63 the state only got 2%.
