12-7-1941 remember to stop and ......
« on: December 07, 2010, 04:06:20 AM »
Since i no longer work for a US based company since i retired nor did i work for such a patriotic company like the Bullard Machine Tool company in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  They would hang the american flags from all the overhead cranes on this day to honor the ones who gave there life on this day.  At 9am the whole company of 1,000 employees would stop for a minute of silence on this day.  During the war the workers of this plant also chipped in money to purchase one of our fighter pilot aces a new plane when he was shot down.  The prop of this plane was hung in the companies main office.  We have lost this respect in our country today and just don't see this 12-7-1941 date anymore than just another day. Is it an insult to the other countries were trying to do business with?  Screw the money and lets honor the ones who gave it there all to make us free today.

Amen!

Seems like December 7th has turned into just another day...  :'(  9/11 is almost as bad already!

+1 A few years ago i went to Hawaii for vacation, took alot of prodding from the wife, she kept asking me what I wanted to do there. I finally said "the only thing I must do, is go to the Arizona Memorial". For me a very somber, humble, experience.

How soon everyone forgets, i can still remember the american flags hanging from the many overhead cranes to this day.  This company was running 24/7 during the war to meet the demand.

I think our Vets from nam were the first ones everyone forget about.  All the vets need to get respect no matter what war they all fought in.

Remember to thank a vet when you see them too. Give them the respect they deserve.

I make a point out of stopping and saying "THANK YOU" to ANY Vet that I see. I'm retired and don't have to be on time for anything except for my funeral (I'm working on trying to be late for that, too ;D). You see, I remember my homecoming from Viet Nam. One of the girls that I used to date came up to me and asked if I enjoyed killing babies. Thank God my father was there and kept me from beating her to death. A week later one of the women that used to babysit for my parents for me came up and spit a hocker on me while I was in uniform. That time I had to keep him from killing her. Yeah, I remember being told in the American Legion that they didn't want me in their post--they said Viet Vets were losers, so beat it. Same thing in the VFW. And they wonder why I won't join their posts >:(. I still feel that way, 40 years later. Yeah, I remember coming home--That's why I'll go out of my way to the new vet (and old) and say "thank you for your service". I don't want them treated as I was. :'(  God Bless our Vets (and all)
