tc renegade .54 breach plug removal

Lead padded vise jaws and good fitting  15/16 boxed end wrench has always worked for me.
Don't use a sloppy wrench or an adjustable wrench it will get the job done but it will also round the corners.
They do make a tool that slips over the whole breach plug for removing the plug I think Dixie Gun Works has them.

carried and hunted with one for over 20 years and never had a misfire or a problem that required the removal of the breechplug.

T/C breechplugs are infamous for being excessively tight. The plug is fitted up before the exterior finish of the barrels. You will never remove one without damaging the finish even if you are fortunate enough to find one of the original T/C tools which they discontinued long ago. If you have a problem I'd send it back to T/C and they will most likely send you a new barrel free of charge, if they still have any. The renegade was discontinued quite a while back and they may be running out of replacement parts.

Ya, Why remove it?
T/C has the lifetime warrenty thing, if the nipple hole is buggered send them the barrel and they'll replace the breech for nuthin.

THANKS TO ALL THAT REPLIED. GOOD SOUND ADVICE. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS RIFLE, I JUST THOUGHT AFTER 31 YEARS YES, 31. I WOULD CLEAN IT WITH THE PLUG REMOVED. I GOT A KIT AND BUILT IT WHEN MY 1st BORN SON WAS 1, HE IS 32 NOW.

THE RIFLE SHOOTS VERY WELL I AM A GUN CLEANING NUT! DON'T MIND CLEANING THEM AT ALL. THE INSIDE IS AS NICE AS THE OUT. TOOK MY GOOD OL' TIME WORKING THIS ROUGH KIT INTO A NICE WALL HANGING SHOW PIECE THAT IS VERY ACCURATE. THOUGHT IT JUST MIGHT NEED TO COME OFF. THANKS  GUYS FOR THE HELP, I'LL LEAVE IT BE.

My 50 cal is only 25 years old , a kit also. It has taken deer and turkey . They are nice looking rifles.

HI SHOOTALL, YEAH I LIKE MY .54 ITS JUST FUN TO SHOOT. I FIND THE STOCK UNCOMFORTABLE, HARD FOR ME TO GET ON THE CHEEK REST RIGHT TO LINE UP THE SIGHT. NOT ENOUGH DROP? LIKE THE STOCK IS TOO STRAIGHT.

Mine is about the same , Hey I got mine in a funny way. I had this Black hawk that had some very hot loads thru. it . The alum grip frame would not stay tight for many shots . Well I have it with me while riding thru the mts looking at the leaves that had changed color . I see this old gun shop in an old stage station . It all stone , really neat looking. I had to stop and look. Well in it was this kit with a slight crack in the stock where the ram rod fits. I ask how much and the haggling begins . I tell the guy about the 45 and he wants to see it . He looks it over and offers the kit and $100.00 . I told him abot the loads and screws , he told me about the crack.

COOL STOTY. GOT A VACATION CHECK DIDN'T KNOW I HAD COMMING AFTER LEAVING A MILL 6MOS. LATER. GOT THE LAST KIT THAT THIS OLD SHOP HAD. SPORTSMAN DEN IT WAS CALLED THE BEST AROUND THEN HAD EVERYTHING.

some times you can find them on ebay if not you can put a green mountain barrel on it and you will be way a head.they shoot more accurate on my hawkens 50 cal check track of the wolf on the web. 1-32 twist on mine good luck.
