Living for 20 years in NW Alaska I learned that ther's no shortcuts to good foot health, keep them dry and insulated, a sweaty foot in a well insulated boot will be one of two things #1 you get a wet foot that can lead to trench foot the other is the insulation absorbs the moisture leading to a cold wet boot this will sap your body's heat bringing down your core temp.
Ive learned that batteries dont do well in the cold.
I like simple pack boots with felt liners and insoles with wool blend socks, swap into dry socks and liners as required.
