My new Gunbroker find.
« on: December 27, 2010, 06:55:17 PM »
Things are a little slow here, so I thought some Sig cheese cake would be OK.
Bought this on gunbroker, a LNIB P220 SSS (ST). Paid $750 plus shipping and transfer, sold the night sights for $50 and the Hogue aluminum grips for $75 for a net price of $665.
What a sweet shooter! Laser accurate and at 40 ounces, a very soft shooting gun.

Sweet.  I like the grips.  What are they?

Just had my P220 on the range today.  I just love shooting that thing.  Had my daughter shooting it too.  It was her first time shooting a handgun.  Started her out with the .22 conversion.  After about a hundred rounds switched the upper to the .45.  A bit too much for her, but she hit the target at 25 yards (also nailed my target frame a few times).  But not bad for a first time shooter.

Those are Hogue wrap around finger groove grips. I got them at CDNN.
I've since taken them off and put on the Hogue rubber panel grips that came with the gun. Not sure which I like best, all I know is aluminum is not the best in cold weather, and in Minnesota, cold weather is at least half the year.

How do you like your .22lr conversion?

Thanks for the reply.  I've been eying the Hogue wrap around grips for my 220.

I really like the .22 conversion.  It switches over is a matter of seconds.  My daughter loved shooting it.  Easy to handle.  Also makes it easy to transition to the .45, although I think a 226 in 9mm might be a better transition for first time shooters.  The only problem I've had with the conversion has been the mag.  It's made of polymer and doesn't fit right (too loose I think).  Creates a feeding problem when the mag is loaded to the max capacity of 10 rounds.  7 rounds or less works fine.  Others on the Sig Forum have had the same problem with the mags.  They called Sig and got new mags.  Problem solved.  The conversion also doesn't like all ammo.  But the more I shoot it the more it likes.  Right now I'm shooting mostly Winchester and Remington plated bulk, and Mini Mags.  I'm sticking to the plated stuff since it's much easer to clean afterwards.  Blazers tended to lead foul at the muzzle.

Oh, one last thing.  The slide doesn't lock back on the last shot, so you need to count rounds (to prevent dry firing) or get a $25 after market part (modified follower) for the mag.  That's still on my to-do list.

Hope this helps.

Steve
