45-90
« on: November 11, 2011, 12:16:55 PM »
I see that GBO is getting a 45-90 reamer.
Will that be like max'ing out a .357,  all it was, plus...
...or will it make the 45-70 less useable for those of us who probably won't ever go for maximum loads?

Will it take a long barrel to see a real difference between the 45-70 and the 45-90?

The only reason in my opinion to go to a 40-90 is if you are doing BPCR.  Black powder would only be burned up in a longer barrel like the 32" buffalo classic has.  It would just increase your brass price and I run out of shoulder long before I run out of case capacity in the .45-70 with smokeless loads.  I have gone up to 52gr. RL7 and it's more than I want to shoot one or two.  There's still lots of room, so I'd say only for black personally.  ;)
