UPS BASIC?
« on: December 22, 2010, 10:13:59 AM »
Anyone else ran across this?

I placed an order from MidWay last week and it usually take 1-2 days to get to my house. Went online today to see if it had been delivered and I see "TENDERED TO LOCAL POST OFFICE" instead of on truck for delivery. Called UPS and was told to expect it in 1-3 days from the post office. Heck it was at UPS at 5:30 this morning now it is going to take 3 days to get it to me.

Next time I will make sure I select UPS GROUND. Something does not seam right my tax dollars going to the postal service to deliver commercial packages.

Don't think much of it.  UPS is paying the post office to take the package - it isn't free.  This likely is doing a lot to help the post office.  DHL does the same thing in a lot of locations.  If it's not worth their time to send a driver to a location (ie, they've got 1 package 40 miles out of the way), then they just subcontract it out to the local post office.

If timing is important, choose Ground if you like. You'll likely pay more thogh.

Fedex does it too with their SMARTPOST, I've dealt with all three of them, UPS, Fedex and DHL, so far, once they have been delivered to the post office I've received delivery the next day. I've received a bunch of UPS Basic deliveries in the last few weeks since I do 95% of my Christmas shopping online, all have been delivered timely the day after the PO received them as shown by UPS tracking.
