Webley Mk IV 38 S&W???

I'm browsing for something and i hate it when all these great buys show up at the sametime then there's ammo priced so low i just can't pass it up don'tcha hate it?

I just ordered a polish P-64 in 9mm mak and now i see the english webley Mk IV in 38 S&W.  Is it any good or bad???  Plus i'm looking at a rifle right now and these pop up i need to spank the lotto onetime.

1911:  The Webley Mk1V are a good buy.  Most of them turn out to still be pretty tight.  They are a solid revolver although the hinged action is not as strong as some - this simply means you don't try to hot-rod the round.  The round itself, the British 38-200, (the cartridge the revolver is chambered for is not the 38 S&W although the 38 S&W fits and is dimentionally identical to the British 38-200) is quite a capable defensive cartridge. 

The original 38-200 loading can be duplicated with 3-3.2 gns of Unique and a 200 gn bullet (rn or swc) that is sized to .360 or .361 - in fact, cast slugs for the Makarov round are the same diameter (.360-.361) and although less than half the weight the can be substituted for the heavier slug and it makes for a very low pressure and easy shooting round. 

Me - I would spank the lotto a couple of times (lol), but that's just me.

I made a wishlist and i'm drooling at some of the buys right now plus the prices really aren't bad either.  Since i got my 401k this month and realized i'm retired since '02 I never got me a from me to me retirement gift.  I been pondering a $1,200 SA M1A 308win but being way more frugal just "1" gun for $1,200 just isn't me.  I could buy 5 or 6 surplups for that. 

So is a webley MKI 38S&W worth $300?

It seems like everything has gone up in price so fast for the past couple of years that it is hard to keep abreast of prices. If it is in good shape and is a Webley, not an Enfield, $300 may not be too much.

I spent about 3 hours yesterday browsing the net for prices.  What i seen is just crazy.  Some stuff we all have has gone up x2, x3 and even x4 already from when we purchased them.  There's a few more i would like to have and thats it for me.  I just may wait till i see it cheaper but who knows it may even go higher. I think i'll look at the gun shows this fall too.

Very nice shooter. Could be about the strongest of the top break revolvers. The load that was mentioned, Unique with a 200 grain bullet works nicely.
I use bullets from the Lyman 358430 mold. They drop at 195 grains and are at .360.
Three hundred is fair.

i hope you took the plunge on the webley mk iv...but i'm a fan of british top-breaks. i've had an enfield #2 tanker model for years and recently acquired a mk. iv. .38 s&w's aren't all that common, but are easy to reload if you have a source of .360" dia. bullets.

I picked up the llama extra in 9mm largo. I did see one for $375 lately.  I'm thinking the longer i wait the higher the prices will go. On the other hand the russian nagants still are only $99 i'd like to get around a dozen of these just because i can while there still dirt cheap.  There ugly too but unique.  I been buying the russian nagant surplus ammo too every now and then. But i want a webly and a 38 victory revolver if i can find a decent price. After all these prices lately are at the bargain basement brand new 1911's which makes the choices even harder.    as the surplus stuff goes higher in cost i might as well jump ship and go after some newer modern guns too. I won't stop with the surplus stuff but i will be more choosey.  I always look for one thing when another pops up and i go for that.  I kind of lose my way or my plan sometimes.  I got caught up with some swedish mausers lately too.  I just can't pass up these pretty blondes. But my wish list is still in tact.   I did also pick up a CZ50 and a polish random p64 recently too. The P64's are like unissued too.  I'm trying to stay on top of all the newly offered C&R's                     CZY
