RELOADING A BIG BOY
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:41:08 AM »
I started reloading last winter and have a few questions.
Anyone load 357mag for a Henry Big Boy? What are you loading and what have you found that is best in that gun. I'm having success, I think. Trouble is, after having jamming problems with a 357 Big Boy, Henry finally sent me a new rifle. Yes, everything you hear about their warranty is true. They are fine people. OK. the first rifle shot great with commercial 158 gr bullets but the new one would not shoot good at all with the same exact brand and load. Then i started reloading. Couldn't get a 158 in a 12" circle at 100 yards using a skinner peep site. The first rifle did 3" circles. Last week I loaded up some low power 180gr and they were much better. Hopefully today i will try 4 different loads on the 180gr laser cast flat point. I will post the results.
Also, what is your opinion on the strength of the Big Boy. What kind of pressure can it take? A return email from Henry states that it can take any commercial loads. Aren't store bought loads on the weak side? thanks for the help, Dave
