Price question/opinion
« on: December 30, 2010, 10:40:39 AM »
Looking at a used NEF handi rifle at a local shop it is a 3 barrel set with the 3 digit matching number on all barrels. In nice shape with wood stock and forend, scope bases on all barrels. Comes with 7mm-08, 243, & 44 Mag barrels just wondering if the $350 price tag is about normal, just getting to the handi rifles and already looking to expand. :o

Yeah after looking around here I thought it sounded like a fair price. Traded for a youth model with a 22 LR & 22 Hornet barrels so if I manage to get the 3 barrel set I will be getting a pretty good start. Craig

as long as the gun, barrels & stock set are in good shape and all the barrels lockup tight & have good bores & chamber then that is good price. The 3 barrels sold individually would get in the neighborhood of $350 so not a bad deal.

Sounds reasonable to me, the only caveat I can see is if the frame was made '96-'99(see the FAQs), H&R won't fit anything but shotgun, 357 and 44 mag barrels to those frames and won't fit any * marked high pressure barrels to any frames made prior to 2000. Just something to be aware of if you were considering other accessory barrels.

The 3 barrels in the set have all been factory fitted to the reciever and have the last 3 digits of the serial number inscribed by the factory. Craig

You still may want to check the ser# prefix to be sure and the 44 barrel may be overbore depending on when it was made.

That Tim guy usually knows what he's talking about. ;)

Most of us have learned a thing or two from him ;D

That means nothing as far as getting more accessory barrels fitted, their current restrictions on frames they'll fit barrels to is what you'll have to deal with, not what they've done in the past.  ;)

Thanks to everyone for the opinions and information, sounds like I have some homework to do prior to purchase. Maybe I can get the serial# from the action tommorow.
Thanks again, good info here. Craig

All you need is the first two letters of the serial number, compare that to the Mfr year list in the FAQs.  ;)
