New wall hanger - its up to me now
« on: December 26, 2010, 10:37:58 AM »
Picked up a new wall hanger today , its an old Parker SXS with the side hammers , its awful loose and having twist steel barrels its not likely that it will ever be shot again .

I remember shooting bunnies with it as a kid some 30+ years ago , mostly low brass #6s , the good old days , as its been in the family for over 100 years now its only fitting that it gets a place of honor above the fireplace .

The reason I got it is because my stepdad had to go in to a nursing home , hopefully to get strong enough for open heart surg. , and to be real honest , I don't see him making it through it .   :(  He's been too hard on himself for way too many years now and with mom gone , there's not been anyone to help keep him on the strait & narrow like he should have been .

Stimpy,

Gotta love the old SxS shotguns.  I too shot rabbits with an old Damascus barrel 12 ga double about 40 years ago.  It was my granddads gun and went to another family member. :(  Post a pic of your gun if you get a chance.  I assume this one will not make an appearance in your paint booth. ;D

Know how you feel Stimpy.  I have my grand dads old damascus, it was the first gun I ever shot.  I shimmed the pin and got her tight.  Cleaned it up, and had a buddy load some bp shells.  Then I decided I would just never fire it.  I removed the firing pins just for safety's sake in case someone after me got crazy......

Stimpy, I was going to say that I have some good mag. load I would let you fire through it.  ;D But I won`t cause I know you would get even.  >:( Take care of it. I lost my great grandfathers double barrel 10 ga. in a fire. Of the 30 guns I lost it was the 1 I hated to lose most.
