Laser Grips
« on: January 05, 2011, 01:38:59 PM »
I have noticed that laser grips - have been mentioned/recommended for handgun hunting.

My experience with this type of grip - is that it`s ok when I do some shootinginstruction - or shoot at close range/ or indoors.

In my "daily" handgunsituations - which is hunting - this type of grip - are useless.

In a sunny day - I can`t see the red point beyond 10 yds.

But maybe - some of you have other experiences?

I also use it when I test different loads - because that some of my guns not are so easy to change from open to optic sights.

For hunting they are pretty much useless, with exceptions of course. Maybe raccoon night hunting or something. Plus, they are only "regulated" not precisioned, but then again so are fixed open sights. I do like them for dark rooms hunting bad guys if needed though. But yes, sun light greatly reduces the range. Try a green laser instead of red your distance will increase. That's the way God made our eyes.  May have to be a special order but our demo was great.

Here's another related thought... Lasers are often illegal for hunting, depending state and area, of course.

I don't think it is legal to shine any light source on game animals in Illinois? Here, that's considered poaching.

cept for those predator's Steve which really are not a game animal?...I guess that they would be since they are in the Reg's.

Have to think Red/Gray Fox season where 24 Hr hunting is legal to include Coyotes. hand held light, scope light, night vision monocular, and even night vision Scope are all legal (please send $4000 for my night scope  ;D) Might be dicey to try and get a lazer beam on one though.

A friend has some of the Lazer grips, they work very well as far as operating them goes, we just projected the dot on the side of his house in the daylight when I saw it. Seems to be better suited for hunting at night and within the house as someone mentioned already.

This is the point I was going to bring up.  Here in Maryland, they are illegal for hunting any game animal.  I would definitely check the laws carefully before investing in one for this.

Only my 2 cents....not sure the original intent of the laser grip was for hunting.  I have a set on my 2", 686.  Love em , work great for their intended purpose.  Or what I believe their intended purpose was.  At close range, awkward positions , ie laying on your back under the table....shooting inside a house around obsticles , etc.  As a few others have stated , many states do not allow a projected light ( laser ) while hunting wild game.   :)
