Don't be a sucker and take statements made by congresspersons at face value. Just remember, you must search their statements for hidden agendas. They can be very crafty in their speech. Dick Morris revealed on national TV that staffers working for congress members can have their federal loans written off. That sounded a bit fishy to the Beaufort, NC newspaper so they contacted their congressman, asking him if this were true.
Here's the article:
http://beaufortcountynow.com/post/586/19/congressional-staffers-get-their-college-loans-paid-by-taxpayers.html Notice how the congressman answers their inquiry (about paragraph #4).
...essentially, loans are not paid by the taxpayer..but congress persons have a "recruiting tool" which pays the loans off...DUH
So, I guess the loans are not paid by the taxpayer..but by a "recruiting tool"..UUhhh
I guess the lesson is, never believe the surface statement by a congress person until you have 'parsed' every word...and you may need a lawyer to do so...
So we can see the great concern some congressmen have for our burdensome taxes.
