My new .357 max shorty *new configuration pic in last post*

I had the barrel cut to 16.5" and recrowned. The crown is beautiful, way nicer than any factory crown I have seen on a Handi. I just got it back in the mail today. Can't wait to get a scope mounted on it and go shooting.  ;D

What are you gonna put on it for glass?

That barrel is identical to mine.  It's on a BC Carbine stock.  You'll love that little rifle.  Good luck and good shooting.

Well, I wanted to order a pretty small scope, but I couldn't find anything that I really liked. To be honest, I wanted one of those $20 Simmons 2.5x20's, but I think those are all long gone.

Then I was going to order another 2-7 Redfield, nobody has any of those in stock online.

I stopped by the local Wal-Mart for the heck of it to see what they had. They had a couple 2-7 Nikon's for $129.95 plus tax, I think I am going to stop back there tomorrow and pick one of those up. If I decide that it is too big for what I want on this rifle, I will just put it on my other 22" Maxi. :)

I put a little red dot on it that I had laying around, I can't decide if I want a small optic like this or the Nikon 2-7 that I picked up the other day. Decisions, decisions.....  :D

I'm also going back and forth between this stock set and an extra Handi-Grip that I have laying around.

Nice looking carbine you got there. If the Nikon is better quality glass, then mount that and leave it at 2X. Doubt that you'll have much use for the 7x for the .357 Maximum ;D but better glass always improves your shooting.

A shorty like that would look nice with K 2.5 or another scope with the straight tube, Weaver 1-3, Leupold and Nikon also have em.  DP

Awesome job on making your Handi handier.  A few years back I did the same thing to my stainless Rossi R357S single shot also removing the black paint from the stock and oiling the wood.  Popped many a goat with this little carbine.  I think of these short barreled guns as handy up close and personal tools so I put a peep sight on mine and remove the aperture when necessary turning it into a "ghost ring".   I think that red-dot sight would be perfect for up close work especially at dawn and dusk.

Sorry I missed this post... don't know how....

Anyhow, VERY NICE!! Personally red dots on riles never "did ti" for me. But if you like it, more power to ya. It will make for a quick shooting, handi little carbine!!!

I just today finished mine too!!!

I swapped some barrels with DP and now have two Maxi's. I WAS going to chop the new one, but forgot that the new barrels are much heavier than the original maxi that I have. So I fit the old barrel to the new frame and DP's barrel dropped right on the orig maxis orig frame. So now I have the LWT orig MAXI barrel as my shorty. I chopped it to 17", carefully file squared the muzzle and then crowned it. I bought a new thumbhole syn stock. I had a 3X M8 Leupold on this barrel already so that stayed too.

 I have tried them a couple times cause as I said, I use them allot on my pistols. They are fast on target and for close range stuff on moving targets should be the bomb. But the cold really seems to sap the batteries and if they go you got nothing. Do you leave it off to conserve and risk a missed quick shot, or on and use up the battery? Maybe if you could use a bigger battery.....  :)

The Parallax is the other problem, its just seems an inherent problem and effects them more than most realize. Test yours. From a good rest shoot 5 groups. One with the dot in each "corner" then in one last one with the dot perfectly in the center. I just about guarantee you will see a POI shift.

I have one on my wife's 12Ga Turkey barrel and its been fine for years with the same battery. But its seldom too cold in May.  ;D

I changed the receiver and stock set, not sure which version I like better. I threw a red-dot on it that I had laying around. (even though I don't like red-dots)
