158 jacketed bullets in 350 mag
« on: January 02, 2011, 03:08:22 PM »
I have been searching for published data for shooting 357 bullets in my 350 mag for practice. There isn't even any loads listed on trail boss web sight skips from the 338 straight to 375. Does anyone have a source for this data?  I can find loads for 35 welen and 358 win just nothing on the 350. I'm pretty cautious on reloading so I'm not just going to try something thats not a tested good safe load. The load doesn't have to be trail boss, just a powder that is commonly available.

I've never heard of a 350 mag, is it a long gun or a hand gun? Both maybe?
Educate me on this, please.

The 350 remington magnum is a rifle cartridge. Actually you could say it is the original short mag case. The ballistics are allmost the same as a 35 whelan but in a short action case. Alot of the modern load manuals have dropped it from there listings but it has a following that hangs on, my rifle is one of the new cdl's with a 1 in 10 twist barrel, that's one of the reasons I purchased it. The 35 calibers in general have very little fame among modern hunters everyone seems smitten by the 30's and dosen't seem to go above that caliber unless they are going to alaska or africa. The range of bullets is from 180 to 250, you can also shoot 357 bullets in it for light practice loads, another plus in this caliber. Do a quick internet search on the caliber and you will get a better idea of the cartridges capabilities.

The Speer #10 manual is yer friend. They have loads including the 125gr HP, 140gr HP, and the 158 HP. I'll list the loading data with beginning data, max data, and max velocity for the 158's.

IMR4064 54.0grs- 62.0 grs 2841'ps
IMR3031 50.0grs- 58.0 grs 2865'ps
RE7        51.0grs - 55.0grs 2901'ps

I've tried the 158's out of my Remington Classic in 350 mag and accuracy was extremely bad. I was lucky to keep the bullets on a 36"square plate at 100 yds. While I have the components, I never tried the Speer 180gr flat nose with SR4759. Data is like above
SR4759  24.0 grs- 28.0 grs 1926'ps

Might give that a run of you have the bullets.
