Lathe Work
« on: December 11, 2003, 05:06:09 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has a small lathe or milling machine that would be willing to make an adapter plate for me.

It is very simple. I have a T/C Cherokee and the sights are crap. I cannot find a set of replacement sights to fit.

Any suggestions or volunteers?

Thanks.

Fred,
Can you describe how the original sights are mounted......for instance:
Rear Sight... is it mounted with 2 tapped holes and how far apart are they?  Can you take a precise measurement of the screw-holes center to center distance?  Measure from 1st screw hole edge to 2nd screw hole edge.
Frint Sight- Is it mounted typically in a dove-tail slot?  Is the ramp mounted with 2-screws and what are the center to center spacing measurements?

Jim
You might find that Williams makes replacement sights.

You might check the Brownells sight.  They sell several brands of sights that use fiber optic rods/cables to provide a very visable set of sights.  I seem to remember they even list some as replacements for specific muzzle loaders..  All the Tc's  I've seen had screw on sights but the hole patterns are highly variable.  Just fiinished scoping 2 Hawkins for a friend.  the base is a universal fit from Weaver...  it had a half dozen holes..  I still ended up drilling another clearance hole for one of the Hawkins..  The onlu TCs with dovetail rears were some made with primitive sights(even some of them had screw on sights).   Brownells has an online catalog with a search feature..check it out//
