#1 scope base

Does anyone make a scope base that requires the removal of the rib?

  never seen or heard of one.  Since the rib is also the mount, why replace it?  just curious.

The Varminter version of the No 1 does not have the rib.  Looks like it comes with some kind of mounting bases.  Even if you could buy those from Ruger, they may not work as I think the Varminter barrel is thicker.  I'm sure you remove the rib, but then you would need to find bases that would fit the same holes.

  Yes, the #1V does have blocks which mount to the barrel and they are available from Ruger.    With the larger diameter bbl though, they won't fit the other bbls.

The RUGER #1 is a classy looking rifle, and the rib is part of that look.

Over the years, I have never had any problems mounting or using a scope mounted in RUGER rings on the #1 rail.

And there are different height rings available if you want/need to get the scope down more.

the varminter does have two separate blocks.depending on the year of production ,the newer ones are available,there is a difference on the olders.i cannot remember the yrs,but i have an older one without the correct mounts.it has a very nice one piece aftermarket base on it now but limits the objective dia that can be used.i think thats why the varminter has the separate bases,the are taller i beleive than the rib mount.allowing for larger objective scopes.good luck adker

Steve Earl might make custom bases at whatever height and barrel contour you need. I expect you would also have to get extra holes D/T ed. There are so many bases for rifles available that with some measuring of the barrel at the base position you might find something too.
